Frequently Asked Questions
General
Semi-Permanent makeup is perfect for busy women (and yes, men!) who are looking to save time and want their look to stay perfect around the clock. People who have Alopecia, light, half eyebrows or eyebrows with bald spots love our microblading brow service. People with eyes sensitive to makeup or sparse lashes love permanent eyeliner, and those who want fuller looking, more defined lips love lip tinting.
Permanent makeup is also a great solution for those with oily skin that shed makeup easily, athletes, swimmers and beach goers who want to sweat and get wet without their makeup running, and anyone wanting to boost their confidence!
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic technique used for creating and filling in eyebrows. A handheld microblade pen applies pigment in individual strokes creating extremely lifelike, fine lines of color that resemble hair.
Time will vary with each individual and area being covered and whether it’s your first time or you’re coming in for a touch-up. It takes our experienced technicians an average of one hour for each procedure. The total time to expect at our studio for your first session (including consultation, color selection, and application) is about one hour.
There’s no downtime; you can go back to work right after your eyebrow, eyeliner or lip procedure. It’s normal to have some swelling on the lip and eye, and/or some minor scabbing on eyebrows. Your custom color will initially look 20-30% bolder than what the final result will be after about a week when it settles in. It will take about six days for the skin to completely heal. Our clients generally say they walk out ready to take on the rest of their day with no discomfort. Get more details on eyebrow, eyeliner and lip tinting aftercare instructions. Semi-Permanent makeup is long-lasting and will slowly fade over the course of 1-3 years. As you become accustomed to your makeup, it’s not uncommon to want more. To keep your makeup looking fresh, we recommend having it retouched every 1-2 years. Darker colors, such as black eyeliner, will last the longest. Natural, delicate colors are more vulnerable to the effects of sun, swimming and your skin’s natural emollients.
For safety reasons, the following should not have permanent makeup applied:
- Areas that have had fillers (like Juvederm) should be avoided as well as any areas that have problematic skin conditions like skin cancer, eczema and psoriasis.
- Anyone with contagious blood diseases like Hepatitis or HIV.
- People who are currently undergoing chemotherapy.
- Those who have keloid or hypopigmentation.
- Accutane and steroid users.
- Diabetics.
- Anyone under the age of 18.
After-Care
To achieve the best results, follow the below guidelines after your eyebrow procedure. It’s normal for the area be slightly tender, itchy and appear darker for a few days as the skin develops a thin scab. Scabs will begin peeling 4-7 days after your procedure. When the scabs fall off, your permanent makeup may appear lighter than you expect. Don’t worry, it will darken to your customized color as your skin finishes healing.
- Don’t get the procedure area wet for two days. To avoid this (and still be able to wash your face) we recommend applying Vaseline over your eyebrows. After washing your face, remove and pad dry any water left behind.
- Don’t sleep with the treated area directly on a pillow for two weeks.
- Don’t rub, pick, peel or scratch the treated area, or your pigment could be removed and healing will be uneven.
- Don’t apply lightening products (such as retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, hydroquinone, etc).
- Don’t apply makeup or any other creams and lotions except your healing ointment to your eyebrows until after the area has healed.
- Don’t expose healing skin to direct sun (or tanning beds), hot tubs, saunas, pools or direct shower spray for approximately one month after your procedure.
- Don’t tweeze or wax your brow area for at least two weeks after your procedure.
- Do apply A&D ointment or Vaseline sparingly, with clean fingers, if the area feels tight and dry (preferably once a day).
- Do let your doctor or dermatologist know about your cosmetic tattoo before any chemical peels or MRI’s.
- Do contact your doctor if you notice any signs of infection.
